The RUUUTS project

One goal: to offset 100 kg of CO₂ for every case that reaches the market.

We're a winery, not a consultancy: we make wine. But every case of 6 we sell carries a measurable commitment: we measure its footprint with your real address, reduce it across our chain and offset until 100 kg net remain — about 11 times that footprint. Here's the whole methodology, no smoke and mirrors. Full technical version →

01 · MEASURE

The footprint, bottle by bottle and to your door.

We calculate each wine's emissions with a Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA, ISO 14040/44), grouped under the GHG Protocol (Scope 1·2·3): from the vine to your glass. The footprint has a fixed part — production and packaging, constant per bottle — and a variablepart: transport, calculated from your real address at the time of the order.

02 · TRANSPORT, EXPLAINED

Your address isn't just a form field: it's part of the calculation.

Transport is the only part of the footprint that depends on you, so we don't use zone averages: when you enter your address, we calculate the actual distance from our dispatch point to your door and convert it into kg of CO₂ with recognised factors (GLEC · ISO 14083).

🚚

By road

≈ 0.10 kg of CO₂e per tonne-kilometre, with a +30% detour factor over the straight-line distance — trucks don't fly.

🚢

By sea

≈ 0.0198 kg per tonne·km. The Balearics, the Canaries and overseas destinations add their sea leg to the calculation.

📦

Weight counts

Each bottle served weighs ≈ 1.22 kg with packaging. More bottles, more weight, more transport: the calculation reflects it exactly.

👀

You see it before you pay

In the cart and checkout you see your footprint broken down — fixed, transport and prudence — before confirming. No surprises.

Real example · one case of 6, domestic order
Production + packaging (6 × 0.92)5.52 kg
Transport to your door (~1,000 km straight line · +30% detour)≈ 0.95 kg
Prudence: we count 50% more+3.24 kg
Considered footprint≈ 9.71 kg
We offset (footprint + 100 kg net)≈ 110 kg

The prudence principle: +50%, on purpose

Before offsetting, we assume our footprint is 50% higher than calculated. We'd rather overshoot than fall short: if the calculation were off, the offset covers it easily. We say so clearly on every certificate.

03 · REDUCE (BEFORE OFFSETTING)

Every gram counts, starting with the glass.

Offsetting is no excuse not to reduce. Glass is the heaviest part of a wine's footprint, and we've pushed it to the limit: our bottle weighs 400 grams — 27% less than the sector average (≈550 g) and already below the 420 g target the industry has set for the end of 2026. And whatever's unnecessary, gone.

04 · OFFSET ×11

Two partners, two roles. And never mixed.

On the considered footprint (already with the +50%) we offset until there remain 100 kg net per case — about 10 to 13 times the footprint of a domestic order. Offsetting and reduction are communicated separately: we don't call the product 'neutral' just for offsetting.

Carbon credits · the backing

CNaught

Retires verified carbon credits (standards like Verra and Gold Standard) from a diversified portfolio of climate projects. Each offset is genuinely retired, with a serial number and public registry. It's the hard proof of the 100 kg net per case.

Reforestation · the tangible extra

Tree-Nation

We plant a tree per case, in your name, with its species, location and unique URL. It's the gesture you can visit — and an extra we don't count within the 100 kg, so as not to inflate the figure.

The scale

Por cada caja, la bodega retira 100 kg. And the maths reaches all the way to your glass.

The case of 6100kg CO₂net offset with every case that leaves the winery
÷ 6The bottle16,7kg CO₂in every bottle you uncork
÷ 6The glass2,8kg CO₂in every glass — 6 glasses per bottle, 36 per case
05 · VERIFY

So you don't have to take our word for it.

Every order generates a certificate with the real emissions, the considered footprint, what was offset and your net contribution — with verifiable references for the retired credits. Anyone can check it with the certificate number, no account and no permission needed.

What we claim, and what we don't

Yes, this is true

  • We measure the real footprint with recognised LCA criteria.
  • We genuinely reduce before offsetting.
  • We offset 100 kg net per case with retired verified credits.
  • We plant a tree per case, in your name, separately.
  • We provide a serial number and public certificate for each offset.

No, this we don't do

  • We don't call the product 'neutral' or 'negative' just for offsetting.
  • We don't count the trees within the 100 kg net.
  • We don't use offsetting as an excuse not to reduce.
  • We don't make up the figures: they're estimated and auditable.
